Become Part of the Music

Build community, celebrate pride, and empower authenticity with your talent! HMCKC is always looking for talented singers & passionate non-singing volunteers to continue our Kansas City legacy of musical excellence! We are a TTBB choral ensemble in its 37th season specializing in “choral theater” productions attached to our mission of singing for a world of love and acceptance.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SINGING WITH HMCKC

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (Mask for rehearsals).
  • Artistic Leadership will be looking to see if you possess the following singing skills: matching pitch, ability to sing harmony, aural recall, a basic understanding of rhythm, and the ability to take feedback. They’ll as about your musical background (high school, college, church, professional, just the shower, etc.), how you heard about HMCKC, and then they’ll check your vocal range to assign you to Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Baritone, or Bass.
  • You’ll be asked to sing an excerpt of a song you can demonstrate confidence, something you’ve prepared or performed in the past (please make sure to provide a copy of music for our accompanist), or something as easy as Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Amazing Grace, or any other simple traditional song. You do not need to be able to read music to be a part of Heartland Men’s Chorus- only the intrinsic motivation to continue to build on the basic required skills as a singer/musician.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Artistic Director at shawn@hmckc.org.

HeartLight

NON-SINGERS? JOIN HEARTLIGHT!

Those who don’t sing or can’t make the weekly rehearsal commitment are invited to join our non-singing fifth section, HeartLight.

This group gives an opportunity for interested men and women to be members of the Chorus and provide a wide range of essential support functions. HeartLight members are incorporated into Chorus events as their personal schedules permit.

If you would like to know more about HeartLight, or you would like to volunteer specific skills to the Chorus, please contact the Chorus office.
