Become Part of the Music

There is room for everyone in Heartland Men’s Chorus — singers, non-singers, people of all genders, old or young. You can become a part of Kansas City’s most interesting Chorus!

Interested in singing with Heartland Men’s Chorus? Here’s how you can audition to become a member:

Join us for open rehearsal on Tuesday, April 5 at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral from 6:30p-9:30p for our upcoming production: Unbreakable.

Proof of vaccination and a mask. All members must properly wear a mask while singing. HMCKC also practices social distancing during rehearsals.

After the open rehearsal, interested new members will have the opportunity to demonstrate their singing skills in a short, low-pressure “voice check”.

During this voice check leadership will be looking to see if you possess the following singing skills: matching pitch, ability to sing harmony, aural recall, and then we’ll check your vocal range to assign you into Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Baritone, or Bass. You’ll be asked to sing an excerpt of a song you can demonstrate confidence with- something you’ve prepared or performed in the past (please make sure to provide a copy of music for our accompanist) or something as easy as Somewhere Over the RainbowAmazing Grace, or any other simple traditional song. You do not need to be able to read music to be a part of Heartland Men’s Chorus- only the intrinsic motivation to continue to build on your current skills as a singer/musician.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Artistic Director at

Those who don’t sing or can’t make the weekly rehearsal commitment are invited to join our non-singing fifth section, HeartLight.

This group gives an opportunity for interested men and women to be members of the Chorus and provide a wide range of essential support functions. HeartLight members are incorporated into Chorus events as their personal schedules permit.

If you would like to know more about HeartLight, or you would like to volunteer specific skills to the Chorus, please contact the Chorus office.
